2002 Lexus ES Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The call came in around 6 p.m. from Del Mar Heights. A woman at a specialist's office, her father in a wheelchair beside her, and a 2002 Lexus ES that had stopped responding. She was trying to get him home. The fob did nothing. The car sat there.
The dealer was closed. I was twenty minutes out.
By the time I got there, she had already tried holding the fob every way she could think of and had gone through her purse twice looking for a spare that didn't exist. Her father was patient. She was not falling apart, but she was tired in the way people get tired at the end of a hard medical day.
I opened the fob housing right there in the lot. The CR1616 had corroded against the contact plate, just enough to kill the remote signal and leave the transponder unreliable. I cleaned the contact, seated a fresh battery, and tested the remote functions. Then I did the part that actually matters: I confirmed the car started and ran clean, because a corroded contact on one of these can sometimes leave the immobilizer in a confused state if the key has been cycling in and out of the ignition while the battery was failing.
It started clean. I walked every button. Everything responded.
She asked what the dealer would have charged. I told her to call and ask sometime, just for the experience. She laughed a little, which was the first time that happened since I arrived.
Her father was home that night without a second vehicle, without a rideshare, without transferring a wheelchair into anything unfamiliar.
