The transponder side will almost certainly be fine. Immobilizer enrollment on a stored key does not time out or degrade just from sitting. The remote side is a different story. A CR1616 left in a key for years will likely be dead or too weak to get reliable range. Pop the battery, replace it, and test all three buttons before you trust that spare. If the buttons come back clean, you are good. If they are weak or inconsistent even with a fresh cell, the issue may be the contacts inside the housing, which can oxidize over time from sitting unused. That is a quick fix on the bench, not a reason to buy a new key.
