Early B8
Your early S5 uses a 4-button proximity fob with an ID48 (PCF7945AC) transponder chip and Audi's Immobilizer IV system. OBD-II is the method is required here, but the security is a step below later models. Some 2008 and 2009 models may not have push-button start, so we verify per VIN before rolling out.
B8 (Type 8T)
We program everything through the OBD-II port right at the car using VVDI2 or Autel IM608. By this gen the move was to an ID48 chip and Audi's Immobilizer V, which means tighter encryption and multi-module verification. Your S5 has push-button start, Comfort Access, and an HU66 high-security emergency blade tucked inside the fob.
B8.5 Facelift (Type 8T)
The key system is identical to the pre-facelift B8, which is good news for parts availability. Audi kept the same key platform for the facelift, so your 2013 to 2015 S5 still uses the ID48 chip, IYZFBSB802 fob, and Immobilizer V. Refurbished OEM fobs work perfectly and save you money over brand new dealer stock.
Spot Your S5 Key
Some early models use a traditional ignition slot instead of push-button start. This is a proximity-style fob with a pop-out emergency blade.
The emergency blade slides out for manual door entry when the battery dies. Push-button start with Comfort Access.
If you have a working key from a 2010 S5, it is physically identical to the 2014 fob. Same key system as the earlier B8.

FCC ID Mismatch
2008-2015 S5 B8 runs Megamos Crypto ID48 PCF7945AC, and a hard 12V cut drops the immobilizer's pairing with original fobs. We plug VCDS into OBD, run ECU adaptation, original fobs are back online in 20 min curbside.
Smart Key Battery Drain
A fresh name-brand CR2032 usually solves it in 30 seconds. First check is the battery. Your S5 fob constantly polls for the car's proximity signal, eating CR2032 cells fast. Cheap aftermarket batteries worsen it.
Immobilizer Sync Failure
Audi's Immobilizer IV and V need every security module to agree before starting. All keys lost means a full sync across engine ECM, steering column lock, and cluster. Our van carries VVDI2 and Autel IM608. Sorted in Poway.
Emergency Blade Wear
Your S5's HU66 high-security blade wears faster than a standard key, especially if you have been manually unlocking. A worn blade causes a no-start that looks identical to transponder failure. We cut fresh and test before assuming electronics.
DIY Programming Options on the S5
That requires OBD-II tools. You can re-sync a remote that was already programmed to your car, like after a battery disconnect. But you cannot add a new key to the immobilizer or program a new transponder chip at home.
If your existing fob lost its remote pairing, you can re-sync it with a simple procedure. Same deal. Programming a brand new key to the immobilizer? That takes professional equipment and PIN extraction. No shortcuts.
