2014 Audi S5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Rancho Bernardo, over in Westwood, an attorney staying at one of the hotels near the business corridor called me around 8 in the evening.
She had attempted a battery swap on her smart fob herself, forced a battery that was the wrong size, and bent both contacts in the process. The fob was completely dead. Doors would not respond, and she had already drained the fob trying to get it to wake up.
The dealer she called said bring the car in, and she was looking at two business days minimum before anyone would even look at it. She had a deposition the next morning. Towing it in was not an option she had time to think through.
I pulled up to the hotel, put the fob on the hood under my light, and opened it. The damage was visible immediately: one contact had folded over and the other had a hard crease from being forced. I straightened both contacts, seated a correct replacement cell, and tested the fob response before moving to anything else. It was already communicating.
From there I connected my equipment through the OBD port, pulled the vehicle's key memory, confirmed how many keys were registered, and verified the immobilizer was not flagging any fault from the failed fob attempts. Everything was clean. No new key needed. No programming job. Just the contact repair and a correct battery.
She was back inside the hotel in under 30 minutes. She mentioned what the dealer had quoted for a full replacement key if the fob had been unrecoverable. What I charged was a fraction of that, and she did not miss her morning.
The repair was simple. What mattered was showing up at night, in a parking lot, with the right tools to know what the job actually was before assuming the worst.
