2015 Audi S5
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2015 Audi S5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in the Fernbrook area of Ramona on a Tuesday midday. The owner of a 2015 Audi S5 had parked in a lot and the fob just stopped cooperating with the comfort access handles. The car would still start, but she had to fish out the emergency blade every time to get in the door. For a car like the S5 that kind of workaround gets old fast.

She had already called the Audi dealer. They walked her through the quote in pieces: the key itself, cutting, programming labor, shop supplies, and a note that she might need to leave the car for most of the day. She did the math and called me instead.

I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port under the dash. On the 2015 S5 the immobilizer registration process involves reading the security data from the vehicle, pulling the authorization code, and then writing the new key into the system. It is not something you can shortcut. The equipment does it correctly or the car rejects the key entirely. I have seen DIY attempts where someone bought a fob online and could not get it paired. The fob itself is not the problem in those cases. Pairing always requires the right tools talking to the right module.

The add-a-key sequence ran its course, which on these Audis takes a deliberate amount of time because the system has built-in timeouts during enrollment. Not something to rush. Once it cleared, I walked every function: comfort access on both doors, the start button, lock and unlock. Everything came back clean.

She kept her original key and left with a working spare. The dealer quote would have taken her the rest of the afternoon and then some. We were done before her next appointment.
