She was parked in her driveway in The Crosby, Rancho Santa Fe, when she called. The fob had been dropped on the garage floor a few weeks back and she had been nursing it since, holding the cracked halves together while pressing buttons. Then I moved her working electronics into a fresh housing, seated a new battery, and ran through the full check: door handle touch unlock on both sides, push-to-start, remote lock and unlock, everything.
Handed it back to her. Same fob, new shell, working like it did before she dropped it.
She paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted for a completely new unit. The dealer's quote assumed nothing was salvageable. That assumption would have cost her.
