G90 Generations: HI to RS4
HI Platform 1st Gen (2017-2022)
Launched as the flagship. Smart fob with proximity entry, push-button start, and HITAG3 (ID47) chip architecture. CR2032 cell, emergency blade inside. Server authentication baked into the immobilizer from day one. Only two generations exist on the G90, so this is your 1st gen.
RS4 Platform 2nd Gen (2023-2024)
Clean-sheet redesign. New flagship fob with capacitive touch surfaces. Digital Key 2 Touch with NFC phone pairing from launch. Server auth tightened well beyond the HI platform. Add-a-key is on-the-truck for us. All-keys-lost on RS4 may need a server-access window.
2nd Generation Facelift (RS4)
Your newest G90 runs an ID47 chip with a laser-cut blade and a rechargeable fob battery. Security jumped again with cloud-based validation through Genesis Connected Services. We can handle add-a-key jobs on these with the right server authorization, but all-keys-lost situations on the 2024 and 2025 currently require dealer involvement. We will tell you that upfront before we roll out.
Identify Your G90 Fob
HI 1st-gen smart fob. Three buttons, CR2032 cell, HITAG3 (ID47) chip, emergency blade tucked behind the release. Standard 2017-2022 spec across the entire HI platform.
RS4 2nd-gen flagship fob. Capacitive touch surfaces across the face, Digital Key 2 Touch capable out of the box, CR2450 cell behind the cover. 2023-2024 production only.
Latest generation with a rechargeable battery and laser-cut emergency blade. Cloud-based security means programming requires server authorization.

EZ Car Keyz vs. San Diego Genesis Dealer
Warranty matches the dealer. Difference is your G90 stays parked in your Rancho Santa Fe driveway instead of riding a flatbed.
G90 Problems We Solve Across San Diego
HI Platform HITAG3 Auth Hang
1st-gen HI cars sometimes drop the ID47 trust chain after a battery jump. Push-start dead. We re-pair on-site with no tow charge.
RS4 Capacitive Touch Misfire
Capacitive surfaces on 2nd-gen fobs occasionally lose calibration after a battery swap. We restore touch mapping and re-pair to the car.
All-Keys-Lost on RS4 2nd Gen
Tightened server auth on RS4 platform makes all-keys-lost the hardest ticket on the G90. We diagnose live before quoting. Honest answer up front.
Digital Key 2 Touch NFC Drops
Phone pairing drops after 12V disconnects on RS4. We rebuild the trust chain and reenroll on-site, no dealer needed.
G90 DIY Programming: Honest Answer
No. HI 1st-gen requires Genesis server auth and OBD-II tooling. Zero DIY path.
No. RS4 2nd-gen ships the tightest immobilizer auth Genesis has built to date. Pro stack required, full stop, and even the dealer leans on Genesis TechInfo to get through it.
Cloud-based validation makes this the most locked-down generation yet. Add-a-key jobs require server authorization. All-keys-lost currently needs dealer involvement.

G90 Trivia
The G90 launched in 2017 as the first true Genesis-branded flagship after the Hyundai-to-Genesis split. The 2023 RS4 redesign added capacitive touch surfaces to the fob and was the first G90 with Digital Key 2 Touch NFC pairing from launch. Genesis only ever built two generations of the G90, despite some aftermarket sources mislabeling refresh trims as a third generation.
