2018 Genesis G90 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Fernbrook, a guy called me about his 2018 Genesis G90 sitting in a parking lot off the main stretch through Ramona. His fob had gone missing somewhere during his day, and he had no spare. He'd already called one other locksmith who suggested drilling the door cylinder to get in, then towing to the dealer for a new key. The quote was steep and the timeline was worse.
I asked him to double-check the door handle. The G90 has an emergency key insert point that's easy to miss if you haven't used it before. The slot was there. We got in without touching the cylinder.
From there, the job was standard all-keys-lost work. I decoded the lock mechanically to get the correct cut for the blade, cut a new key, and paired the new smart fob to the vehicle through the OBD port. The old fob, wherever it ended up, got wiped from the system at the same time so nobody could walk up later and use it.
He watched most of it from the sidewalk, which I don't mind. People get curious when the car is a G90. It's a big, quiet sedan and the key system matches that energy. Everything is internal. Nothing looks dramatic from the outside.
When I walked the fob after programming, every function came back clean: door handles, start, the works. He asked about a spare. Smart move on a car like this. We talked through options before I packed up.
The other locksmith's plan would have left him with a damaged cylinder on a flagship luxury sedan. That's not a small thing to fix after the fact.
