Got a call from a woman parked at the RB Town Center, right off Bernardo Center Drive. She'd been running errands and came back to a fob that the G90 simply stopped recognizing. No warning before it happened, no gradual weirdness. The car just sat there showing a key-not-detected warning on the dash and wouldn't let her start it.
She'd already called the dealer. They told her to have it towed in and they'd work it into the schedule the following day. She was not interested in that plan.
First thing I did when I arrived was check the obvious. Pulled the CR2450 out of the fob, confirmed it was reading low on the tester. Swapped in a fresh one, reseated it, tested. Still nothing. The fob itself had failed, not just the battery. That happens on these, usually the internal board after a drop or water contact.
So we went the full route: new fob sourced to the correct spec, emergency blade cut to her vehicle on my machine, and registration through the OBD port with the diagnostic tool. The immobilizer accepted the new fob, I walked every button, confirmed proximity detection at both front door handles, verified the engine start, and she was back in her car.
The dealer's quote, before the tow, was already well over what I charged her. She paid a fraction of that, in the parking lot, same afternoon.
