This is where Acura's security got serious on the RLX. Your key is a 3-button smart proximity fob with an ID47 (PCF7961X) transponder chip and a high-security blade tucked inside. Push-button start is standard, and programming requires OBD-II access with professional tools. No shortcuts on this one.
First Generation (Facelift)
Acura updated the transmission to a 10-speed but kept the same key system. You still have a 3-button proximity fob with an ID47 (PCF7961X) chip and high-security blade. The difference is that 2018 and newer models require server authentication during programming, which adds a step but does not change what we can do for you right at the car.
Sport Hybrid SH-AWD
Same proximity fob as the non-hybrid, same ID47 (PCF7961X) chip, same 3-button layout. The hybrid ECU can require additional sync steps during programming, and some hybrid models may need dealer server access. We verify this before we roll out so there are no surprises.
Pinpoint Your RLX Key Type
Black fob with the Acura logo on the back. Push-button start, keyless entry, and a hidden high-security emergency blade inside. This is the only key your RLX uses.
Same design as the earlier model. Three buttons, integrated emergency blade, and push-button start. The key looks identical but programming requires server authentication on these years.

Smart Key Fob Battery Drain
Owner inherits a used RLX with one fob, then it vanishes. The four-button KR5V1X needs OBD-II programming with the right equipment, and the immobilizer pairs through Honda. Acura dealers tow and bill $900+. We originate the fob at the vehicle for half.
Transponder Programming Lockout
We check ECU status before touching anything on your RLX. If someone tried programming with the wrong tool or procedure, the immobilizer can lock out and refuse new keys. When that happens, a dealer-level reset is needed, and we tell you upfront.
High-Security Blade Duplication
Your RLX fob has a hidden emergency blade inside, and it is not a standard cut. Regular machines cannot duplicate it. The blade uses a high-security profile that needs a specialized cutter and the right code data. Handled at the vehicle in Carmel Valley.
Programming a RLX Key Yourself
No self-programming procedure exists for this generation. Your RLX requires professional OBD-II tools like the Autel IM608 or Honda HDS to register a new proximity fob to the immobilizer.

The RLX introduced Precision All-Wheel Steer on its non-hybrid trims. The system turned the rear wheels up to three degrees opposite the front, giving a full-size luxury sedan the turning agility of a much smaller car.
