2017 Acura RLX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got the call on a Saturday afternoon from a guy stranded at a hotel in Fallbrook, out near the Bonsall side.
He was visiting from out of state for a wedding, and somewhere between the hotel room and the ceremony his only fob had vanished. He had already talked to the hotel concierge, who told him smart key replacement was dealer-only work. The nearest Acura dealer was closed until Monday. His flight home was Sunday evening.
The vehicle was a 2017 Acura RLX. All-keys-lost on a push-to-start setup is a different job than a standard transponder. There is no ignition cylinder to work around, no mechanical fallback for starting the car. The vehicle security system needs to detect an enrolled fob wirelessly before anything powers up. With zero enrolled keys, the car just sits there.
I drove out to the hotel. Before starting the enrollment sequence, I pulled a backup of the immobilizer data through the diagnostic port as a precaution. That is standard on any all-keys-lost job where I am clearing existing key data. Once the old fob was erased from the system, I registered the new fob and tested every function in the parking lot: door handles, lock and unlock, the start button, the whole sequence. The car woke right up.
He made his flight. The dealer would have had him waiting until Monday and then some, with parts on order depending on stock. All-keys-lost on a smart key system is a tool-dependent job, not a dealer-exclusive one. I keep the right equipment in the van for exactly this situation.
