2015 Acura RLX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2015 Acura RLX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a text from a guy parked at a small event venue near La Mesa Village. His 2015 Acura RLX had gone quiet on him, fob not responding, doors not unlocking, car sitting in the gravel like it had made up its mind.

The proximity entry had stopped reading entirely. He tried the door handle a few times, then tried again, then realized he was just standing next to an expensive sedan in a lot with no dealer within any reasonable distance. He found me, dropped his GPS pin, and I headed out.

When I got there he pointed at the door handle like it had personally offended him. The emergency blade slot was packed tight with fine dust and debris, the kind that builds up when a car mostly lives in clean garages and then spends one afternoon on a gravel surface. I cleared the slot, got him inside with the manual blade, and then got to work on the fob itself.

The fob had partially lost its pairing. Not a full all-keys-lost situation, but degraded enough that the immobilizer wasn't recognizing it cleanly. I backed up the vehicle's security data before touching anything, registered the replacement fob using my programming equipment right there on the hood, and tested every function: proximity unlock walking toward the car, the start button, remote lock and unlock from a distance.

It all came back. He drove out of that gravel lot the same afternoon, and the dealer conversation never had to happen. He mentioned the nearest Acura dealer would have meant a tow and a wait he didn't have time for. That part didn't surprise me at all.
