2016 Acura RLX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Berry Park in Imperial Beach, a night shift warehouse worker got home around 11pm and his only RLX fob was completely dead to the car. No response at the door handles, push-button start wouldn't recognize the key, nothing.
He'd already pulled up tow truck numbers and was mapping the nearest Acura dealer. By the time he called me, he had mentally committed to losing most of the next day to a dealer appointment.
I told him to stay put.
I drove out to his apartment complex and found his RLX sitting in the parking lot under the lot lights. He was out there waiting, still a little skeptical. I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the Acura smart key system. That process clears the existing key data from the vehicle's security module and re-registers new fobs from scratch. His was a five-button proximity fob with the emergency insert blade tucked inside the housing.
The whole thing happened in his parking lot. No tow, no dealer, no waiting a week for parts.
When it was done and the push-button start responded the way it was supposed to, he just stood there for a second. Said he'd assumed this kind of thing only happened at a shop. The dealer route would have cost him significantly more, plus a tow he didn't need. He was back inside before midnight.
