2019 Acura RLX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked on Birmingham Drive in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, wrapping up some notes between jobs, when I got a call from an RLX owner a few streets over. She had a working key, but the original was showing wear and she wanted a spare before it became an emergency. Smart thinking on her part.
She came out to meet me in her driveway. While she looked over the equipment, I explained what the job actually involves on a 2019 RLX. It is not just cutting a blade. The fob has to be registered to the vehicle through the OBD port, and the vehicle security system has to accept it as an authorized key before anything works. The whole process runs through a diagnostic tool. There is no button sequence you can do yourself in the driveway.
I connected at the OBD port, walked through the key registration, and had her test every function: passive lock on walking away, push-button start, the remote buttons. Everything read back clean. Start to finish, about twenty-five minutes in her own driveway.
She mentioned she had called the dealer first. They quoted her a wait for a parts order plus a half-day service drop-off. She said she could not leave the car there on a workday. That is the part that gets me every time. The dealer's answer to a simple job is almost always "leave it with us." Mine is to come to you.
