The Eclipse Cross Key Architecture Across the GK Run
1st Generation (GK)
Walk up and the doors unlock automatically. Serious security behind the convenience: your 2018-2021 Eclipse Cross carries a FAST Key smart key system with an ID46 PCF7953 transponder and push-button start. Programming demands OBD-II tools plus server authentication, no shortcut around professional equipment.
1st Generation Facelift (GK)
Mitsubishi refreshed the styling and electronics for 2022 but the key architecture stayed untouched. Still a FAST Key smart key with the ID46 PCF7953 chip, CR2032 battery, three buttons. Server authentication still mandatory. Same tools, same procedure, same outcome on the curb.
1st Generation Major Refresh (GK)
The 2024-2025 brought a serious interior and infotainment overhaul, but Mitsubishi kept the proven FAST Key immobilizer intact. Still ID46 PCF7953 smart key with push-button start. Programming method unchanged: OBD-II with server authentication. We VIN-verify the FCC ID on 2025 cars before ordering parts, because Mitsubishi occasionally updates shell designs quietly.
Identify Your Eclipse Cross Key
Slim rectangular fob with lock, unlock, and start buttons across the face. Stays in your pocket or bag. Small emergency blade hidden inside the housing for manual door entry if the cell dies.
Same smart-key design as the earlier models. Three buttons, push-button start, hidden emergency blade. Side by side the 2022-2023 fob looks identical to the 2018-2021.
Still the same FAST Key system with three buttons and push-button start. The shell design may vary slightly on the 2025, so we VIN-verify the FCC ID before sourcing the blank.
San Diego Pricing on an Eclipse Cross Key
Price covers the key blank, cutting, OBD-II programming with server authentication, and full on-vehicle testing before the van packs up.

San Diego Eclipse Cross Key Problems We Knock Out
Smart Key Fob Battery Drain
Fob buttons work one day, dead the next. FAST Key proximity sensors burn through CR2032 faster than most expect, especially when the fob lives on the kitchen counter near the car. Fresh cell first, we swap in 90 seconds.
Transponder Recognition Failure
Owners assume the fob cell is dead when a 2018-2022 Eclipse Cross refuses to start. If the security light flashes, the culprit is usually a weak transponder signal or failing antenna ring around the push-button switch. We test before recommending.
FAST Key Synchronization Loss
Car battery died, jump or replacement, smart key refuses to fire. FAST Key lost sync with the immobilizer, common in Carmel Valley and El Cajon. Two working keys means a relearn; no working keys means OBD-II reprogramming on the curb.
Blade Wear on Emergency Slot
We inspect the emergency blade first. Using the hidden blade because the cell keeps dying wears it down and can damage the cylinder. Worn blade is cheap; damaged cylinder is not. Fresh blade curbside, plus we sort the dead-cell pattern.
Can You Program an Eclipse Cross Key Yourself?
Two-key path only. With two working FAST Keys in hand you can add a third using Mitsubishi's onboard registration: driver door open, button sequence on both working fobs, touch the new key to the engine switch. Only one key at a time, and not an all-keys-lost path.
Same two-key procedure as the 2018-2021. Two working keys, driver door open, button sequence, touch the new blank to the start button. Down to one key or zero keys, you need professional OBD-II programming with server authentication.
Refresh did not change the two-key self-program path. Two working keys lets you add a new one yourself. Catch: you need a properly coded blank with the right transponder chip. One key or zero keys, dial (619) 876-1271 and we handle it on the curb.

San Diego Eclipse Trivia
In the 1990s the Eclipse name belonged to one of Mitsubishi most iconic sport coupes. The Eclipse Cross revived the name in 2018, but the two vehicles could not be more different. The modern Eclipse Cross FAST Key smart-entry system actually traces back to PSA Peugeot-Citroen platforms shared with the Outlander, which is why one tool family covers both.
