2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I really have to tow my Eclipse Cross to the dealer if I have no working keys?

No. A mobile locksmith with the right tools and software coverage for the 2023 Eclipse Cross can handle all-keys-lost at your location. The programming connects through the diagnostic port, so the vehicle does not need to be running or moved anywhere. Dealers push the tow option because their workflow assumes you bring the car to them. That is a dealership logistics problem, not a technical requirement. We handle it in your driveway.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost job take on the 2023 Eclipse Cross?

On site, figure 30 to 45 minutes from the time I connect. The immobilizer reset and key enrollment sequence has a timed component built into the procedure, so there is a window you wait through before the new key registers. That is not wasted time, it is just how the system works. Cutting the emergency insert blade adds a few minutes on top of that.

Q: My 2023 Eclipse Cross start button stopped responding, but the fob battery is fresh. What is going on?

Fresh battery rules out the most common cause, but it does not rule out a seating problem. If the CR2032 was installed without fully engaging the contact plates, the fob can read fine when you test it outside the car but lose connection under slight pressure in a pocket or bag. Open the fob again and press the battery down firmly until it clicks into position.

Q: Can I buy a replacement fob online and program it myself to my 2023 Eclipse Cross?

No. There is no owner-accessible self-programming sequence for the smart key system on this vehicle. Enrolling a new fob requires a diagnostic tool that communicates with the immobilizer. That is true whether you are adding a spare or replacing a lost key. If you already bought a fob online, that is fine. Bring it to me and I can program it as long as it matches the factory FCC ID for your vehicle.

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Ocean View Hills flagged me down through a neighbor after he had already been to the dealer and back. He had a 2023 Eclipse Cross and one working fob. He wanted a spare made before something went wrong, not after.

The dealer quoted him a wait of several days for the key to be ordered, then another appointment to program it. He walked out without anything and started asking around.

I had him covered on site in his driveway. The fob housing, the transponder chip, the emergency insert blade, all sourced and tested before I ever show up to a job. His existing fob stayed enrolled. The new key went through the same programming process, confirmed working on all functions, and he walked back inside with two working keys in maybe forty minutes.

The only moment that gave him pause was when I asked him to test the start button himself with the new fob. He had this instinct to hover his hand near mine, like he needed to catch it if something went wrong. It started on the first press and he just nodded and said he wished he had called a week earlier instead of making that dealer trip.

That is pretty much every spare-key job. Less drama than people expect.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my keys to my 2023 Eclipse Cross. Can you make a new one on the spot?▼

Yes, and this is one of the calls we get most often. All-keys-lost on the 2023 Eclipse Cross is handled on site with diagnostic equipment connected through the OBD port. The process clears the existing key registrations from the immobilizer, programs the new fob to the vehicle, and cuts the emergency insert blade to your door lock. The old fobs, wherever they are, get wiped from the system so they cannot be used to start the car.
