2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Fire Mountain, Oceanside, I got a call from a guy who was already frustrated before he said hello.
He told me another locksmith had come out the week before to cut and program a replacement smart key for his 2022 Eclipse Cross. The key turned, the engine fired, and then died in about two seconds. He said the other tech poked around, told him the body control module might be bad, and left. The guy paid for a key that did not start his car.
When I pulled up, I did not assume anything. I went through the basics first. Fob battery was fine. Key blade was cut correctly. The issue was exactly what I had suspected from his description over the phone: the registration had not completed. The immobilizer had accepted a temporary key write but the confirmation cycle never finished, so the permanent memory was never committed. On my scanner the key slot showed as occupied but not fully enrolled.
I cleared the failed registration data, ran a clean sequence with the full timed cycle, and waited for the confirmation before I even touched the ignition. Three consecutive starts, clean every time. No stall, no warning on the dash.
He just sat there in the driver seat after the third start and said he could not believe it was the same key. It was. Just done right this time.
He paid me a fraction of what the dealer had quoted him for the same job, and he did not have to leave Fire Mountain to get it sorted.
