Early LX Platform
On-board programming makes this one straightforward. Your 2005 to 2008 Chrysler 300 uses a flip key (or remote head on base models) with a Philips ID46 (PCF7936) transponder chip and the SKIM immobilizer. We pull the PIN, program the chip through the OBD port, and you are driving in about 20 minutes.
First Generation LX
The programming method here is still on-board, which keeps things simple and affordable. Your 300 runs a Philips ID46 (PCF7936) chip verified by the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module. Three-button remote head key, standard blade, CR2032 battery. If you have two working keys, there is even a self-learn procedure built in.
Second Generation LD Platform
Chrysler moved to a smart proximity key with push-button start and an ID46 transponder chip. The Wireless Control Module replaced the old SKIM system, and programming now requires OBD-II access with a PIN from the server or a diagnostic tool. High-security blade means a specialized cutter, but we carry one on every call.
Late LD Refresh
This is where security got serious. The updated fob jumped to five buttons, a laser-cut emergency blade, and an ID47 chip running through the RF Hub immobilizer. Programming requires server authentication, which means specialized tools and Chrysler WiTech access. The dealer wants a fortune for this one, but we handle it on-site for significantly less.

SKIM Module Failure
People think the ignition switch is bad when a 2005-2010 Chrysler 300 cranks but will not start. Real culprit is usually the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module. When SKIM fails, it stops reading your transponder. We reprogram or replace same visit.
WCM Water Damage
First check on a 2011+ 300 saying 'key not detected' is the Wireless Control Module behind the steering column. Chrysler routed it where windshield leaks corrode the connector and kill signal. Common in Oxnard and Camarillo after rainy seasons.
Transponder Sync Loss
Your key worked yesterday, now the car cranks but will not fire. On the 300 this hits after a battery replacement, jump start, or any modules losing power. Transponder lost sync with the immobilizer and needs an OBD relearn. Takes 15 minutes.
Fob Battery Drain
If your 2011+ 300 smart key dies every few weeks, passive entry is the cause. It constantly pings the fob and drains the CR2032. Battery is easy; if it keeps happening, the fob's internal antenna may need attention. We test signal on-site.
Can You Program a Chrysler 300 Key Yourself?
Yes, if you already have two working programmed keys, you can add a third yourself using Chrysler's built-in Customer Learn Mode. Insert the first key, turn to ON for 5 seconds, switch to the second key within 10 seconds, then insert the new key within 45 seconds. The security light will confirm. No tools needed, but the new key must already be cut to fit your ignition.
