Got a call from a woman near the Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks. She was sitting in the parking area with a 2016 Chrysler 300 that wouldn't recognize her smart key. Dashboard just kept throwing "Key Fob Not Detected" on the EVIC. She'd already tried holding the fob against the start button, which is the backup method Chrysler tells you about when the battery is dead. Nothing.
She had one key. The spare disappeared during a move two years ago and she never replaced it.
I pulled up, plugged my programmer into the OBD-II port under the dash, and pulled the 4-digit PIN from the SKIM module. Her original fob had a corrupted transponder profile. The RF hub on the 300 talks to the key at 433 MHz, and when that handshake fails, the whole system goes quiet. No crank, no accessory, nothing.
Programmed a new M3N-40821302 fob, cut the emergency insert blade to match her door cylinder, and tested all five buttons: lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, panic. Full range from about 30 feet out. Clean push-button start on the first press.
She sat on a bench the whole time watching people walk into the gardens. Came back when I waved, tested the key herself twice, and that was it.
The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and she never had to leave the lot.
