I got a call from a woman in the Ventura Harbor area on a Sunday morning. She was in a church parking lot near the water and she'd already been through it. I drove out to Ventura Harbor, pulled up next to her in the lot. Connected through the OBD port with authenticated access, extracted the correct PIN from the vehicle's own security module, cleared the incomplete key data from the previous attempt, and ran a clean full-cycle learn. Verified every one of the 5 buttons on her fob. Verified a clean start with no cutoff. Showed her the confirmation on my screen so she could see with her own eyes that the key was written permanently this time.
She mentioned what the dealer quoted. It was a lot more than what she paid me. And she'd already paid the first locksmith on top of that, which I couldn't do anything about. What I could do was make sure the job was actually finished.
