The call came from Chumash Park while I was already in Ventura. A 300 owner couldn't start his car after leaving it at the boat yard for two weeks.
The dash showed "Key Fob Not Detected" and wouldn't respond to the start button, even with the fob pressed right against it. He'd already tried a new CR2032. Still nothing. The dealer quoted him three days wait time plus their diagnostic fee before they'd even look at it.
I pulled up next to his 300 and ran my scan tool. DTC U11E9-00: lost communication with RF Hub. The fob checked out fine on my frequency tester at 433.92 MHz. Strong signal, good modulation. But the RF Hub wasn't hearing it.
I cleared the codes, ran the RF Hub relearn through the 12+8 bypass cable on the gateway module. The system needed the full initialization sequence, not just a battery reset. Twenty minutes later, I had him test every function: push button start, passive entry on all four doors, trunk release, remote start, panic.
He mentioned his neighbor paid the dealer four hundred something for a similar fix that took three days. Mine took less than half an hour, right there at the boat yard.
