A young couple in Rancho Conejo called me on a Tuesday morning. They had one FOBIK for their 2010 Chrysler 300 and it had started acting up. Some mornings it worked, some mornings the car sat there and the dash lit up with a key warning. They had already tried a fresh CR2032, which helped for about a week, then the same thing came back.

I was at their apartment lot in about twenty minutes. The FOBIK blade had worn enough that it was not sitting cleanly in the ignition wafer stack, which was causing intermittent reads. I decoded the lock, cut a fresh blade on site, and programmed the new FOBIK through the OBD port. The whole thing took a little over thirty minutes, start to finish, standing next to their car in the shade of the parking structure.
The dealer route would have cost them a tow fee on top of a price that made them wince when they told me. They paid a fraction of that and never had to leave the lot. The baby stayed in the apartment, which I think was the part they cared about most.
