P3 Platform Smart Key
P3 platform smart-key shift. The 2011-2018 S60 jumps to full smart-key proximity with push-button start. Your key becomes a 4-button fob with a laser-cut emergency blade hidden inside and a CR2032 cell powering everything. The Central Electronic Module (CEM) controls the immobilizer, and programming demands professional tooling that speaks to that module directly.

Key Fob Battery Depletion
CR2032 cells in P2 and P3 fobs last about three to four years before fading. On 2019-and-newer SPA cars the CR2032 inside the smart fob runs a similar cycle. Weak cells cause unreliable starts. Sluggish in Carmel Valley or UTC? Swap the cell first.
Transponder Chip Failure
2004-2009 S60 turns the key freely but the engine never fires? Classic failed transponder chip. The chip in the head has degraded so the immobilizer cannot verify it. Marco cuts and programs a fresh transponder key on-site and the S60 fires like new.
Smart Key Programming Loss
Owners blame the smart key when the real fault is a programming desync. On 2011-2024 cars, swapping the battery wrong or doing electrical work can wipe the key's pairing with the CEM or SPG module. Marco confirms via OBD-II and re-pairs in Mira Mesa.
Immobilizer System Lockout
