Volvo smart key programming isn't a dealer-only job for most models on the road. The car's CEM module checks the fob's transponder through a proximity antenna on push-to-start models or a coil in the dash slot on earlier smart keys. Programming means registering a new chip code with that module. I do it through the OBD port or on the bench depending on the year.
