2017 Volvo S60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Del Mar Heights customer called me about her S60 smart key. The buttons had gone soft -- not dead, just that sunken, unresponsive feel where you press and nothing happens unless you really push.
The shell had a hairline crack running along the seam near the battery compartment, and when she pulled the emergency blade out to show me, it moved like it had never been touched in seven years.
She had already been to the dealer. They told her the whole fob needed to be replaced and quoted her a number that made her pause long enough to start searching for other options. What the dealer did not tell her was that the board inside was working fine.
I met her in her garage. She stood there while I opened the fob on her hood. The circuit board came out clean -- no corrosion, no damage, battery contacts solid. The factory FCC ID on the fob matched what her car expected. I transferred the working electronics into a fresh shell, installed new rubber button pads, seated a new CR2450, and cut a replacement blade to match her lock.
She watched the whole thing. When I handed it back and walked the car -- doors, touch sensors, start button -- it worked like it did when the car was new. She said she wished she had called me before sitting in the dealer waiting room.
The dealer was ready to sell her a completely new fob and the full programming labor to go with it. She did not need any of that. She needed the right diagnosis and someone willing to do the smaller job honestly.
