2019 Volvo S60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
He texted me from the economy parking structure off the airport, Monday afternoon. Had been out of town a week. His 2019 Volvo S60 was right where he left it, but the fob was getting no response from the car. Doors locked. Start button dark. He'd already tried pressing every button twice.
The tow quote he'd gotten was not cheap, the dealer couldn't see him until Thursday, and he had work the next morning. He found me, called, and I told him to stay with the car.
I was in Winding Walk earlier that day and made it to the garage in under 45 minutes. First thing I did was have him hold the fob flat against the start button. Nothing. That told me the proximity handshake was fully down, not just weak. I got the door open using the mechanical emergency blade inside the fob, then pulled out my diagnostic tool and connected to the OBD port.
The fob was still in the vehicle's memory, but a communication fault had been logged, likely when the battery voltage dropped too low over the week and the system registered the key as unresponsive rather than just dead. The fob itself was fine. CR2032 swap, fault cleared through the port, and the car recognized everything normally.
I handed him a spare battery to keep in the glovebox. His car never left the parking spot. He drove home that same evening, and the dealer visit on Thursday became something he didn't need to reschedule.
