2015 Volvo S60
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2015 Volvo S60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked off 3rd Street, a block or so from Moonlight Beach, on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. A guy had called about wanting a second smart key for his 2015 S60. He had one working fob, everything functioned fine, and he just wanted a backup before something happened. Smart thinking.

He mentioned the dealer quote almost as a throwaway comment. Said he figured it was what it was, that Volvos cost money to own and maintain, and a replacement key was just part of that math. He wasn't even upset about it. He had just accepted it.

I decoded the blade profile from the door lock on site, cut a new key blank to match, and got into the diagnostic port to register the new fob to the vehicle security system. The S60's immobilizer enrollment requires the right equipment and the existing working key present during the process, so having that original fob on hand is part of what makes the job go smoothly. The whole thing took under 40 minutes on his street.

I handed him both fobs, walked him through testing the door handles and the start button with the new key, and showed him the blade decode so he understood what I had done and why. He tested it twice himself.

He said he figured he had saved a good chunk versus what the dealer wanted. I told him that was kind of the point. Then he walked back inside and I drove off toward the coast.
