I got a text from a guy in the Ferry Landing area of Coronado. He was standing next to his 2024 S60 in one of the parking areas near the waterfront. The fob had been acting up for a few days, he said, but he figured it was just being moody. That morning it stopped responding entirely. So I connected to the central electronics module, worked through the security authorization, and programmed a fresh fob to his car. Cut the emergency blade to match his locks. Walked every function: touch unlock on both front doors, the start button, lock confirmation. Everything came back.
He asked if this was actually his car now, or if the old fob could still be used to get in. That's a fair thing to worry about. I confirmed the old fob was deregistered during the process. It's a dead piece of plastic at this point.
The dealer quote was a tow plus the key job plus however long it sat waiting. He paid a fraction of that, and the car never left Ferry Landing.
