I got a call on a Saturday evening from a guy staying at a small inn in La Mesa, right on the edge of the Grossmont Area. He'd driven up from the coast for the weekend, parked the S60, and came back after dinner to a dead fob. Push-button start gave him nothing. He tried the fob a few times, checked the door handle, nothing.

The fob battery was done. Swapped the CR2450, reseated it clean, and tested range. It was better but not right. The fob itself had a hairline crack along the seam, probably from being dropped, and the internal contact had shifted. At that point a fresh fob was the cleaner call.
I had a compatible unit in the van. Cut the emergency blade to his vehicle on the spot, connected to the diagnostic port, ran the pairing sequence through the body electronics, and enrolled the new fob. Tested every function: lock, unlock, push-button start, the whole circuit. Done in about 35 minutes.
He told me he'd been looking at a three-day wait with no car and a tow on top of the key cost. He ended up keeping his Sunday plans. The dealer comparison came up on his own. I just handed him the keys.
