2018 Volvo S60
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2018 Volvo S60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a resident over in The Cays in Coronado. She had one working fob left for her 2018 Volvo S60 and wanted a spare before she ended up with nothing.

Her neighbor had already told her the dealer was the only option for a Volvo this new. She had looked it up herself and found a forum thread that basically said the same thing. She called me anyway.

I pulled up to her place on a Tuesday afternoon. The car was in the driveway, the sun was doing its thing off the water, and she was already standing outside ready to watch.

The job was a standard add-a-key. I connected through the OBD port, accessed the vehicle security system with my diagnostic equipment, and enrolled the new fob alongside her existing one. The whole process took under thirty minutes. Both fobs got tested on every function. Lock, unlock, panic, the trunk release. Everything responded.

She asked me at the end how I was able to do something the Volvo website said required a dealer. The honest answer is that the vehicle security system does not know or care where the registration happened. The handshake is the same. The difference is I come to your driveway in The Cays instead of making you drive to a service department and wait a week for a parts order.

She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted her. That part was almost an afterthought by then.
