Worst case on a 2016 Volvo S60 is an all-keys-lost where another locksmith attempted the job, couldn't read the CEM, and left the system in a fault state. A bad programming attempt on a Volvo can lock the CEM so it rejects all new key registration attempts. Some locksmiths see that error and tell you to tow it to the dealer.

Total was about two hours including the module removal and reinstall. His bill was $286. The alternative was a flatbed to the Volvo dealer, a possible CEM replacement at $536 or more, and a week without his car.
