KEYZ

Serving Old Town Drivers Daily
Last call on San Diego Avenue. Keys vanished somewhere between the bar and the rideshare home. A Toyota Corolla sat alone in the surface lot behind Fiesta de Reyes, engine cold, no spare. I decoded the TOY48 lock with a Lishi pick, cut a new blade on the Condor XC-Mini Plus, and registered the transponder through the diagnostic port. She was driving before the kitchen lights went off. Friday night in Old Town.

Old Town Market (4010 Twiggs St) has 40+ shops with free parking. Old Town Urban Market food hall is on San Diego Ave. Bazaar del Mundo offers Latin American boutiques and galleries in the walkable core.
Grocery and ErrandsRalphs is located south on Sports Arena Blvd. Vons and Trader Joe's are southeast on Rosecrans at Liberty Station. Banks, pharmacies, dry cleaners, and gas stations cluster west toward the Midway District and north into Mission Valley. Errand traffic flows south/southeast to Point Loma and north along I-5.
HOA & Gated Access Note
Old Town is not a gated neighborhood and features open historic streets including San Diego Avenue and Harney Street with full public access. Carter Hill HOA (91 homes, mesa-top in Linda Vista near University of San Diego) is the nearest HOA-managed property. Mission Village has an HOA (phone 858-630-1700) with pool and tennis amenities. No guard gates, keypads, call boxes, or service vehicle restrictions have been documented for the Old Town area.
Local Event Surge
Harney Street Market runs every Saturday and Sunday, 9am-4pm on Harney Street, featuring artisan vendors selling jewelry, photography, clothing, hand-blown glass, and pottery. Kearny Mesa Certified Farmers Market operates Saturdays 10:30am-2:30pm on the service road from Lightwave Ave to Spectrum Center Blvd in the adjacent Mission Valley area.
WHAT THE VAN CARRIES
Transponder Key Programming
10:15 PM. Toyota Corolla near Old Town Transit Center. Aftermarket key turns the cylinder but the engine won't fire. $145-$185. The blank has no chip, or the wrong one. I read the immobilizer with the Smart Pro, program the correct 4D chip, and confirm start before packing up.
Lockout Service
11:45 PM. Honda Accord at the lot behind Fiesta de Reyes. Keys on the seat, doors locked. $105-$145. Air wedge and long-reach tool, door open in minutes. Rubber guard goes on the frame before any pressure goes in.
Push-to-Start / Smart Key
1:15 AM. Honda Civic parked on the street off Taylor. Smart key gone, no spare anywhere. $245-$325. Proximity systems on newer Civics require a security PIN pull before the car will accept a new fob. I retrieve that PIN through the diagnostic port with the Autel IM608, then pair the replacement fob to the body control module. Here's the part nobody mentions: some Honda models run a mandatory security timer during programming. Ten minutes of standing there, no shortcut. At 1 AM in a quiet lot that feels long, but the car won't skip it and neither can I. Full job wraps in about an hour.
Car Key Replacement
12:30 AM. Toyota Camry in the surface lot off San Diego Avenue. Only key lost after dinner. $145-$185. The TOY48 Lishi reads the wafers through the door cylinder, a new blade comes off the Condor XC-Mini Plus, and the transponder gets written to the immobilizer at the data port. One visit, under an hour.
