KEYZ

Serving Point Loma Drivers Daily
Every Toyota since 2005 has a transponder chip inside the key head. If that chip isn't registered to your car's ECU, the engine won't start. Doesn't matter if the blade is cut to factory spec. Doesn't matter if the ignition turns freely. The immobilizer reads a 4D-67 chip at 125 kHz, checks the encrypted handshake, and decides whether you're going anywhere. A 2016 Toyota Camry at Liberty Station had exactly this problem. Owner got a copy made at the hardware store, blade turned fine, engine refused to fire. I cut a proper TOY43 blade on the Condor XC-Mini, wrote a 4D-67 Texas Instruments chip to the immobilizer via the diagnostic port with the Smart Pro, and the car started on the first crank. Fifteen minutes in a parking lot.

Crime & Theft Awareness
Point Loma's vehicle theft index is 113, below the San Diego average of 122. Overall crime earns an A grade with an index of 103 against a national average of 100. Larceny/theft is slightly above the city average at 114 vs. 113. Adjacent Point Loma Heights also rates low crime at A- with an index of 128. San Diego citywide vehicle theft dropped 22% in 2025 to the lowest levels since the 1970s, aided by automated license plate reader technology. Theft from vehicles fell 24.7% citywide. Population is 63,383 with primary traffic along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.

Transit OptionsThe Blue Line Trolley serves coastal areas and UCSD. Route 7 bus connects dense neighborhood areas to Downtown with frequent service. Peak traffic aligns with standard rush hours on I-5 near the Point Loma exits.
WHAT THE VAN CARRIES
Car Key Replacement
Your 2014 Toyota Camry uses a 4D-67 Texas Instruments transponder chip paired to the immobilizer ECU at the factory. When every key is lost, the car has no reference fob to learn from and the process starts from scratch. I pull the key code by VIN through NASTF database access, cut a TOY43 blade to factory bitting on the Condor XC-Mini, and register the new 4D-67 chip at the vehicle's data port. On a Camry this runs about 40 minutes. Some newer Toyota trims with the 8A H-chip add a security timeout that stretches the job closer to an hour, and there's no way to skip it. Transponder keys run $145-$185.
Transponder Key Programming
Your 2017 Ford F-150 runs a 4D-63 80-bit transponder chip at 125 kHz. When a hardware store blank has no chip inside, the blade turns but the engine stays dead. I write the correct 80-bit key with the Smart Pro. Transponder keys run $145-$185.
Key Fob Programming
Your 2014 Honda CR-V uses an ID46 Hitag2 remote head key broadcasting at 433 MHz. When an aftermarket replacement won't sync because the FCC ID or frequency is wrong, the car just ignores it. I check the fob first, confirm it matches the vehicle's specs, then register it with the Autel IM608 at the diagnostic connector. If the fob you bought online is the wrong frequency, I'll tell you before you spend a dollar. Key fob programming runs $165-$215.
Push-to-Start / Smart Key
Your 2020 Hyundai Tucson uses an ID47 Hitag3 proximity chip that communicates with LF antennas buried in the doors and steering column. When both smart keys vanish on a hike at Cabrillo National Monument, the car has no way to verify a fob is present. I pull the PIN from the body control module with the VVDI Key Tool Plus and pair a new proximity fob at the vehicle. Smart keys run $245-$325.
