Ignition Cylinder Repair
Key is getting harder to turn every week? Grinding sound when you twist it? That's cylinder wear, and catching it early saves you hundreds over a full replacement.
Ignition cylinders fail in predictable ways: worn wafers that no longer spring back, a binding housing clogged with debris, or a damaged cam that won't release the steering lock. In many cases we can replace the worn wafers, clean and re-lubricate the housing, and restore full function without pulling the steering column apart.
Describe the symptoms: stiff, grinding, or intermittent. We'll advise before coming out.
Full Cylinder Replacement
Cylinder is cracked, force-turned, or the wafers are completely collapsed? Repair isn't an option anymore. We replace the entire unit and recode it to your existing key.
Full ignition cylinder replacement involves pulling the steering column trim, extracting the old cylinder using a release pin or drilling the shear bolts, and pressing in a new housing. We recode the new cylinder to accept your existing key so you don't end up carrying two keys for one vehicle.
Let us inspect the cylinder first. We'll tell you honestly if repair is still an option.
Ignition Switch Replacement
Key turns fine but the car won't start? Accessories cut out mid-drive? The cylinder might be fine. The electrical switch behind it is what's failing.
The ignition switch is the electrical component that sits behind the mechanical cylinder. The cylinder turns a cam, which actuates the switch, which sends power to the starter, accessories, and electronics.
Tell us the year and make. We'll check parts availability before heading out.
Stuck Key Extraction & Repair
Key won't come out of the ignition? Stop forcing it. A stuck key is a symptom of a wafer problem inside the cylinder, and forcing it risks snapping the blade off inside.
Keys get stuck because a wafer inside the cylinder has collapsed and is trapping the key at a depth that prevents the cam from returning to the park position. In some cases the steering lock is engaged under load and needs to be released mechanically before the key will budge.
Stop forcing the key. Call us now before it snaps inside the cylinder.
Wafer Rebuild & Rekey
Need to change the key without replacing the whole cylinder? A wafer rebuild lets you invalidate old keys and start fresh.
A wafer rebuild replaces the spring-loaded wafers inside the existing cylinder and resets the lock to accept a new key cut. The cylinder housing stays in place. This is the right solution when the housing itself is in
Rekeying works best when the cylinder housing is undamaged. Describe the situation and we'll advise.
Anti-Theft System Reset
Security light stuck on and the engine won't crank? That's the immobilizer locking you out, and it's not always a dead battery or a bad key.
Modern anti-theft systems, including PATS, VATS, Passlock, Passlock II, and manufacturer-proprietary IMMO platforms, can trigger false no-start conditions from a low battery, a failed transponder read, a software fault, or even an aftermarket alarm interfering with the OEM system.
Note the exact security light behavior before you call. Solid, flashing, or intermittent tells us which system layer to target.
