Worn flip keys on older Audis are one of the calls where the dealer quote and the actual fix are completely different jobs. The 2005 through 2010 Audi flip key has a HU66 blade that pivots out of a plastic housing with 3 or 4 remote buttons. After years of pocket carry and daily use, the flip pivot wears out, the blade gets loose, the rubber buttons go soft, and eventually the key barely holds together. The dealer wants to sell a brand new key, cut and programmed from scratch. That runs 502. Most of the time the Megamos transponder chip and remote electronics inside are perfectly fine. The customer just needs a new shell and a fresh blade.

She paid 271 for the shell swap and fresh blade. The dealer wanted 502 for a full key when only the housing was worn. The chip inside an Audi flip key can outlast several shells.
