A guy in Casa Conejo, over in Thousand Oaks, called me about his 2003 Audi Allroad. He had one working key left and had been carrying it like it was made of glass. His wife had the spare years ago and it just disappeared at some point. He finally decided to get a second key made when he realized he was parking close to home on purpose, just in case.
He had already called the Audi dealer. They told him they would need to order the key, verify ownership documentation, and schedule a separate programming appointment once the part arrived. He was looking at multiple days minimum, possibly longer depending on parts availability. He figured that was just how Audi worked.
I came to the car at his house. The Allroad was sitting in the driveway. I cut the new blade to match the vehicle, assembled the flip key, then connected my programming equipment to the OBD port to register the new key to the immobilizer. On a 2003 like this, the system reads the existing key data and enrolls the new key alongside it. The original key stays active. That took around 30 minutes total, most of which was the equipment doing its thing.
I handed him the new key and had him test it himself: blade in the ignition, engine start, then the remote buttons for the locks. Everything worked on the first try. He tested the original right after to confirm it still operated normally. It did.
He mentioned he had assumed Audi required you to go back to the dealer for anything security-related because of the brand. I told him that used to be closer to true than it is now. The equipment caught up. He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and he did not have to leave the car anywhere or wait days for parts to show up.
