A community garden volunteer at the garden lot in Ventura on a Saturday told me she'd already been burned once. Another locksmith had charged her full price for a 2017 Fiat 500x key that never programmed correctly. The car would crank but the body control module killed fuel injection after two seconds. Classic failed immobilizer learn. The other tech told her the BCM was bad and left.
The BCM wasn't bad. The locksmith was. The previous tech hadn't completed the full immobilizer registration sequence. Fiat's Delphi and Marelli body control modules require a specific PIN-based security handshake. If you rush the process or enter the wrong PIN, the car accepts the key temporarily but doesn't commit it to permanent memory.
I used my SIP22 Lishi to verify the mechanical cut was at least correct, then connected through OBD with my IM608. I read the correct immobilizer password from the BCM, cleared the failed key data, and ran a clean programming sequence. Her flip key, FCC ID M3N-40821302, had all 4 buttons working plus a clean start with no fuel cutoff. I showed her the confirmation on my screen so she could see the key was fully learned this time.
She paid me 95. Dealer charges 200 for the same work. She'd already paid the first locksmith too, which I couldn't help with. But I could make sure this one was done correctly.
