I got a call from a rideshare driver over by Pierpont. He was at the coin-op laundry off Seaward, waiting on a load, and his 2016 Fiat 500x was sitting in the lot mocking him.
He'd already been burned. A $49-ad locksmith had come out, charged him a number that made me wince when he said it out loud, and left him with a fob that would unlock the doors and nothing else. Push-button start refused to see the key. Every time he pressed the start button, the dash threw a key-not-detected warning and the car sat there. The fob the other guy used was the correct one for the vehicle, but the registration never completed. The immobilizer had a partial record of it, which is almost worse than nothing because it creates confusion in the system.
I cleared the incomplete registration, ran a full re-pairing through the diagnostic port, and walked every function: doors, start button, the key-not-detected warning gone, all four buttons confirmed. The fob the driver already had was fine once the system actually knew what to do with it.
He'd paid more to the first guy for a broken result than he paid me for a working one.
