2017 Fiat 500x
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2017 Fiat 500x Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near the community garden area in Pacific View, Ventura, a woman flagged me down on a Saturday morning and the first thing she said was that she'd already been burned once.

She had a 2017 Fiat 500x and had hired another locksmith a few weeks earlier. That tech had replaced the fob, taken full payment, and left. The car would start, run for about two seconds, then shut off hard. She'd been told the body control module was bad and that she needed a dealer repair. She didn't buy it, but she also didn't know what to do next, so the car had been sitting.

I connected through the OBD port and read the immobilizer data first. The module wasn't bad at all. What I found was a partial key registration, the kind that happens when the security PIN handshake doesn't complete. The car had accepted the fob temporarily but never committed it. So it would crank, the engine would catch, and then the immobilizer would cut fuel. Every time. Textbook incomplete learn.

I read the correct immobilizer password directly from the module, cleared the failed key data, and ran the enrollment sequence from scratch. When I was done I showed her the confirmation screen so she could see with her own eyes that the key was fully registered this time. All four buttons worked. Clean start, no cutoff, no warning lights.

She asked me what the dealer would have charged to sort this out. I told her way less than that, and she laughed a little because she'd already paid one person who hadn't finished the job. I couldn't fix that part. But I could make sure this one was done right, and it was.
