Over near the Ojai Post Office Tower, a school bus driver flagged me down at the grocery outlet lot. His 2020 Fiat 500X had been giving him intermittent no-starts for about a week. I pulled out my programmer, read the old key's transponder data, and confirmed it was the wrong chip variant. Programmed a fresh proximity key with the correct AES transponder matched to his 68155686AB fob profile. His CR2032 was also reading low, which explained why the remote lock and unlock had been spotty, so I swapped that too.
He stood there watching the whole process on his lunch break. Quiet guy. When the engine fired and the dash came up clean with no warning lights, he just nodded once like he had been waiting a long time for something to simply work.
That key has been solid for months now. The difference between a key that works and one that works for a week is the chip inside it.
