Where aftermarket goes wrong is when a locksmith buys the cheapest shells online. Thin plastic that cracks at the pivot point within a month. I test every batch before it goes in the van. If a run feels flimsy or the button pads are too soft, I return the whole lot.
He watched me cut the blade, program the fob through OBD, and then walk both keys through every function: passive entry on all four doors, push-button start, remote lock, unlock, trunk release, panic. Both keys performed the same. He pocketed the new one and left.
