A travel blogger at a coastal overlook pulloff near Oak Park area had her emergency blade snap inside the door lock of her 2021 Jaguar I-Pace. She'd tried to use the blade after the smart fob died and the HU92 tip broke in a cylinder that hadn't been turned in years. Another locksmith told her the lock would need to be drilled. New cylinder, new key, well over $500. She called me for a second opinion.
I used my VVDI2 to read the smart key's chip data since the fob electronics were still intact despite the broken blade. Then I extracted the broken fragment from the door lock using my HU92 Lishi without scratching the wafer surfaces inside. I decoded the lock, cut a fresh emergency blade, and rebuilt the smart key in a new housing. Her fob, FCC ID KOBJXF18A, was a 5-button smart key.
No drilling and no cylinder replacement. Her total was 365. The other locksmith wanted 657 or more. Destructive entry on a Jaguar should be the absolute last resort.
