2019 Jaguar I-Pace Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was close to 10:30 at night when my phone rang. A woman calling from an office park in the Presidio neighborhood of Santa Barbara, tired voice, end-of-day exhausted.
She was an attorney who had been grinding through a filing deadline and walked out to the parking lot to find her I-Pace sitting there and her only key nowhere to be found. She had checked her office, the conference room, her bag twice. Gone.
She didn't have her registration in front of her and wasn't sure where to find the VIN. I told her to point her phone flashlight at the base of the windshield on the driver's side and look for the plate through the glass. She found it in about thirty seconds. Then I had her pull up her insurance app, which had the rest of what I needed for ownership verification.
With the VIN confirmed, I already knew the key type and what blank to bring. I loaded up and drove out to her.
Under the parking lot lights I ran the diagnostic sequence through the OBD port, cleared the old key data from the key management module, and programmed a fresh 5-button smart key. The whole job took just under an hour on site. She tested the fob herself, doors locked and unlocked, the car woke up, and she was satisfied enough that she just sat in the driver's seat for a moment before driving off.
She got home that night. The dealer would have meant a tow and a multi-day wait. The VIN and a photo ID is genuinely all I need to get started.
