2021 Jaguar I-Pace Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Oak Park area, Sunday morning, and this I-Pace owner had managed to lock both smart keys inside while the car was running. The activity key was on his wrist, but it only unlocks, doesn't lock, and definitely doesn't turn off the engine.
He'd been loading groceries with the AC running when the wind caught the door. Auto-lock kicked in with both fobs on the passenger seat. Now he's standing there with a running car he can't shut off and an activity wristband that's basically decorative at this point.
I decoded the driver's lock through the window gap using an air wedge and long reach tool. No scratches, no damage. Got the door open, grabbed one fob, and showed him how to disable that auto-lock feature in the touchscreen settings. Takes about 30 seconds once you know where to look.
The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes. He kept asking about the activity key limits, surprised it couldn't do more. That's the thing with these partial-function keys: they're great until you need them to do the one thing they can't.
Dealer would have made him wait for Monday, then charged their hourly rate just to pop a door. Sometimes the simple fix is the right fix.
