The Y159 ignition cylinder on Liberty, older Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler models wears down over time, especially with heavy keychains hanging off the key. The wafers loosen, the key starts catching, and eventually the owner thinks the whole ignition needs replacing.
An electrician at the oil change shop in Oxnard had been fighting his 2023 Jeep Wagoneer ignition for weeks. Wiggling the key, pushing hard, sometimes waiting a minute for it to finally turn. Total was 264. Ignition turns smooth, key slides in clean, and he didn't replace anything that wasn't actually broken.
