A customer at the mosque lot in Santa Barbara told me he'd already been burned. Another locksmith charged him full price for a 2022 Kia EV6 key that never programmed correctly. The car would crank but the immobilizer killed fuel after two seconds. Classic failed IMMO learn. The other locksmith said the module was bad and left.
The car didn't have a module problem. The locksmith hadn't completed the full immobilizer registration sequence. Kia's IMMO system requires a 6-digit PIN and a specific key learning flow. If you rush it or skip a step, the car accepts the key data temporarily but doesn't write it to permanent memory.
I used my HY22 Lishi to verify the blade cut, then connected through OBD with my IM608. I cleared the failed key data, ran a clean IMMO learn with the proper PIN and security sequence, and confirmed the new key was permanently written. His fob, FCC ID CQOFD01340, had all 7 buttons working plus a clean start. I showed him the confirmation screen.
He paid me 216. Dealer charges 391. He'd already paid the first locksmith too. But I could make sure it was done right this time.
