LX 470 (J100)
Your first gen LX 470 uses a transponder key with a Texas 4C (ID33) chip inside the blade. There is no remote built into the key itself; the fob is separate. Programming is done on-board, which means we handle it right in your driveway without any external server connections.
LX 570 (J200)
Your LX 570 uses a remote head key, meaning the buttons and the transponder chip are all in one unit. The chip is an ID47 (Texas 4D), and it takes a CR1632 battery on early 2008-2015 fobs or CR2032 on the 2016-2021 facelift fobs. Programming requires OBD-II access, so we plug into your vehicle's diagnostic port and register the new key to your immobilizer right there on the spot.
LX 600 (J310)
Your LX 600 runs a proximity smart key with push-button start and an ID49 (PCF7953) chip. This is where things get more involved. Programming requires server authentication through Lexus, which means we cannot always do this one on-site. We will tell you that upfront before we roll out.
Which Key Does Your Lexus LX Use?
A metal key with a chip embedded inside the blade. No buttons on the key itself. Your remote is a separate fob.
Your lock, unlock, and panic buttons are built right into the top of the key. The blade flips or extends out, and the whole thing runs on a CR2032 battery.
A slim fob that stays in your pocket. Your LX detects it when you walk up, and you start the engine with a push button. There is a hidden emergency blade inside for manual door entry.

Transponder Failure
First check on a 1998-2010 LX that cranks but will not start: the transponder chip. Texas 4C chips degrade, especially on high-mileage trucks or wet keys. Chip cannot talk to immobilizer, no fire. We test on-site in Oxnard and cut new if needed.
Key Fob Battery Drain
LX 570 owners think the fob is broken when it is battery drain. The 2008-2021 LX immobilizer polls the key constantly, and a cracked shell burns the CR2032 fast. Swap first; if cells die every few weeks, we check internals.
High Security Blade Wear
LX key will not turn the ignition cleanly, or it barely catches the door. Hits every generation 1998-2025. The high-security and laser-cut blades wear and stop engaging the wafers. We cut a fresh blade from the original code, factory-new feel.
Smart Key Antenna Failure
The antenna inside your 2022-2025 LX 600 reads the smart key on door handle or start button. Failed, the LX acts like there is no key, fob in hand. Rare, but seen on LX 600s in Thousand Oaks. We diagnose fob vs vehicle antenna first.
Can You Program a Lexus LX Key Yourself?
If you have a 1998 or 1999 LX 470 with one working master key, there is an on-board procedure using the pedals and ignition that can add a new transponder key. It is timing-sensitive and only adds one key at a time. For 2000-2007 models, no DIY method exists; you need professional diagnostic equipment.
The LX 570 uses an advanced immobilizer that requires dealer-level tools like Techstream or aftermarket equivalents to register new keys. There is no pedal sequence or ignition trick that works on this generation.
The LX 600 smart key system is locked to OEM tools with server authentication. No DIY programming is available for this generation, period.
