Got a call from a guy stuck near Ventura River Trail in Ventura. He was driving his 2000 Lexus LX 470 and the key blade snapped clean in the ignition. Half the TOY40 blade jammed inside the cylinder, the other half still attached to the remote head shell in his hand.
He tried pulling the fragment out with needle-nose pliers. Didn't work. Just pushed it deeper.
I got there and used my TOY40 Lishi to extract the broken piece without scoring up the wafer surfaces inside the lock. Took a few minutes of patience, but it slid out clean. From there I decoded the lock directly off the cylinder readings and cut a fresh blade on site.
The transponder side was simple. The LX 470 uses the 4D-68 chip, and with one working key already registered, the add-key procedure through OBD on the immobilizer ECU (part number 89780-60040 on these J100 platform trucks) finishes in a few minutes. No timed resets, no waiting.
His remote (HYQ1512V) was still working fine on the original housing, so I just swapped it onto the new key shell. Tested the lock, the unlock, the panic button, cycled the ignition twice, watched the security light go out clean each time.
He was rolling again in about 40 minutes from my arrival. The dealer quoted him days and a tow. He drove home instead.
