2013 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in Marina West Park in Oxnard, a woman flagged me down about her 2013 LX 570. Another locksmith had programmed a smart key about a week prior. It worked fine at first. Then, around day eight, the push-to-start button started flashing "Key Not Detected" in the afternoons even though mornings were fine.
She thought the car had an electrical gremlin. It did not.
I pulled her HYQ14AAB fob apart on her hood and read the chip with my programmer. Wrong generation. The previous tech had written a G-chip profile instead of the 8A (DST-AES 128-bit) that the 2013 LX 570's smart ECU actually requires. The car's immobilizer had been running a shallow handshake that passed at first, but once the system cycled through its deeper revalidation, it rejected the key. That is why the failure was intermittent and got worse over time.
Her CR1632 was also weak, which made the detection range even shorter and compounded the whole mess.
I programmed a new fob with the correct 8A chip matched to her smart key ECU (board 271451-0140), replaced the battery, and ran every function: all four buttons, both front door touch-to-unlock sensors, push-to-start from the driver seat and the passenger seat, and the liftgate release. Everything passed.
Months later, still working. The difference between a key that holds and one that fails after a week comes down to the chip generation inside.
