2013 Lexus LX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Wagon Wheel, I got a call from a woman who had already paid another locksmith to replace her smart key. That was eight days before she called me.
The LX was starting fine in the morning. By afternoon, the push-button start would hesitate, flash a key warning on the dash, and sometimes just refuse. She figured the car had developed some electrical gremlin. She'd already had a shop look at the vehicle itself and they found nothing wrong. It took a few questions over the phone before I put it together.
When I got there and connected to the vehicle, the story came through clearly. The previously programmed fob had the wrong transponder chip generation for this LX. It was close enough to get past the initial registration, but the immobilizer runs a deeper check and that check was failing intermittently as the system cycled. The fob was also running a weak CR1632 on top of it, so detection range had already dropped off.
I pulled a correct fob from my kit, programmed it properly to this vehicle using the right equipment, replaced the battery, and walked every function. Door handle touch unlock on both sides. Lock, unlock, the panic button, all four buttons accounted for. Push-button start, cold. Then I had her try it herself so she wasn't taking my word for it.
The dealer quote she'd gotten when this first started was a lot more than what she paid me. She'd gone the cheaper route the first time and ended up paying twice. The second time, it stayed fixed.
