2007 Lexus LX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in East Ventura, near the tennis courts off Telegraph Road, I got a call about a 2007 LX that was doing something specific and annoying. The fob worked close up, but from more than ten feet away it was hit or miss.
Sometimes the doors locked, sometimes nothing. And twice that week the engine turned over but stumbled before catching, which had the owner convinced she had a bigger problem than a key.
She'd already been to a parts store. They sold her a battery. It helped for about two days.
When I got there, I opened the remote head key right on the hood. The battery they'd installed was the right brand but wrong thickness. It was sitting slightly proud in the tray, which meant the contact pressure was inconsistent. That explained the range. The intermittent stumble on start was the transponder chip losing good communication through that same bad connection.
Correct CR1616, seated properly, contacts cleaned. Then I walked the vehicle the way I always do: lock from across the parking lot, unlock, walked back further, tried again. Popped the emergency blade and confirmed it turned the door cylinder. Started the car three times, waited between each one.
She watched the whole thing and said she expected me to just hand it back and leave. That testing loop is the part that matters. It's how you know whether the fix held or whether there's actually a second problem underneath.
There wasn't. Just a wrong battery and a parts-store mix-up. Done on site, no tow, no appointment, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted her just to look at it.
