Over near Cross at Grant Park in Ventura, I got a call from a guy with a 2007 LX 470. He had one working key left, and the rubber button pad had gone soft and mushy to the point where he had to mash the lock button with his thumbnail to get it to register. He had been dealing with it for months.
He told me the dealer wanted him to order a full new remote head key, part number 89070-33470, then bring the truck in for programming and cutting. Timeline was over a week because the part had to ship. He just kept using the bad key.
I showed up with a new HYQ1512V blank in stock. Cut the TOY40 blade to his door lock on site, then connected my programmer through OBD-II to the immobilizer ECU. The 2007 LX uses the 4D-67 chip protocol, so I read the existing key data, registered the new transponder, and wrote it to the system. The whole handshake took a couple of minutes.
Then the part I don't skip. I tested lock, unlock, and panic from 30 feet, then from behind the truck. Three cold starts in a row. Walked to the driver door handle, checked the mechanical insert with the new blade. He stood there holding his old key with the cracked rubber and just looked at it like he was deciding whether to keep it as a backup or throw it in the trash.
I told him keep it. A spare key with ugly buttons still starts the car.
